The Treasury

In the vaults beneath the Royal Caste lies the Treasury where the most imporant symbols of the Swedish Monarcht is keept, the Regalias. There are other valuable items in the Treasury besides the Regalias with makes it well worth a visit by its own..

The Treasury opend in 1969 to display the Regalias to the public. These items had before keep safe but also not available for anyone to see but for a few special occasions.

The Regalias are the property of the State and not the Royal Family. They are however to the disposition of the King whenever he needs them.

Some of the most importan and most valuable items in the Treasury are:

  • The Orb of King Erik XIV
  • The Sword of King Gustav Vasa
  • The Key of King Erik XIV
  • The Crown of Queen Lovisa Ulrika
  • The Crown of Queen Maria Eleonora

  • The Crown of Queen Sofia Albertina
  • The Crown of Prince Wilhelm
  • The Crown of Duke Karl
  • The Crown of Duke Fredrik Adolf

  • The Baptismal font of Karl XI
  • The King Sveno Tapestry

The Treasury

The most important items in the Treasury are the Reaglias and the top five rated are:

The Crown of King Erik XIV (rated no 1)
The Crown represent Royal Honor and Dignity and was made in Stockholm in 1561.
It weights 1,7 kg and has 2 large ruby's on the fron and backside, 2 green
emeralds on the other two sides and a number of smaller emeralds, ruby's and
billiants. The 8 leafs on top of the Crown has 2 lions standing on them and
supporting the Vasa Dynasty Coat of Arm.

The Sceptre of King Erik XIV (rated no 2)
The Sceptre represent justice and righteousness, the Kings secular power and is
made in Stockholm in 1561. On top of the Sceptre is a blue globe with a cross on.

The Orb of King Erik XIV (rated no 3)
The Orb represent that the King has the power from God and has the right to rule a
a christian kingdom. It's made in Stockholm in 1561 and of gold and pearls.
At the Orb there is a map of the world engraved.

The Sword of King Gustav Vasas (rated no 4)
The Sword represent the Kings right and obligation to defend the Kingdom. It also
his right to protect the good and punish the evil. The Sword was puchased in Augsburg 1541
by King Gustav Vasa. The Sword is decorated with etchings and gilded in gold.

The Key of King Eiks XIV (rated no 5)
The Key represents that the King should look the gates of the Kingdom to prevent the evil
from enter but to be able to open for the distressed. The Key is made in Stockholm
in 1561 of gilded silver.

There are a number of other items counted as Regalias but the ones above are the most
important and in general spoken of as the Regalias.
