The Chamber

The Chamber is where all votings, debates etc takes place in the Parliament.
The Chamber can hold all todays 349 members (there was 350 members until 1976).
In the Public Gallery there is room for 500 listeners and you are welcome even if you
are not a Swedish citizen.
The former 1:st Chamber

During the period 1865 to 1975 Sweden has bicameralism. The first chamber
consisted of 150 members that was elected by the Counties and some major cities.
After the bicameralism was abolished in 1975 and one chamber with 350 members was elected
both the 1:st and the 2:nd chambers where to small to hold all members.
A new Chamber was being built in the West Wing of the Parlimant in 1980 - 1983
that replace the both previous.
The former 1:st chamber is today used for open committee hearings etc. The Public Gallery
can hold up to 150 listeners.
The former 2:nd Chamber

the Social Democratic party group meets on Tuesdays. The Public Gallery can hold up to
200 listeners.
The Grand Gallery

The Grand Gallery used to be the connection between the 1:st and the 2:nd Chambers
of the bicameral Parliament 1865 - 1975, it was not just a connection but also the
main meeting and discussion room for the members.
The Grand Gallery is today used for official representations, dinners etc.
Pleae note that in the ceiling there are all the coat of arms of the Swedish Counties.
The Staircase

The House of Parliaments Staircase is very impressive, it reaches from the basement in
the East Wing all the way up to the Grand Gallery on the 2:nd floor.
The Staircase is the heart and center of the East Wing.
The Public Gallery Lobby of the Chamber

The Lobby of the Public Gallery is in direct connection to the Chamber and is very
wide with plenty of space. It has also a very good view of Stockholm towards the City Hall.
