The Tre Kronor Museum

Museet Tre Kronor

The Tre Kronor Museum is all about the old Royal Castle that was called "Tre Kronor" (Three Crowns) after the three crowns on top of the central tower. The Castle was burned to the ground in the great fire of 1997 with the exceptions of the part where the museum is located. In the Museum you will find a lot of information about the old castle but also some items that survived the great fire. There are also the remainings of the old wall from the 13:th century the surrounded the Castle.

The Tre Kronor Museum is the newest museum in the Royal Castle and was opened in December 28:th 1999. Inside there are many models showing how the old Castle looked and of course also a lot of items from it. The old castle was built around a central tower dating from the 12:th or early 13:th century, during the next 400 years the castle grow bigger and bigger and looked more like a fairy tale castle than the present does.

An important part of the Museum is the old wall that surrounded the Castle, it was 6 meter thick and also 6 meter high at the time. When you enter the Museum you are actually walking through this wall. The Museum also displays how people built houses and other things during that time, how the working conditions was in the Castle and much more.

The Northen Wall
The northern wall of the Royal Castle Tre Kronor can still be seen in the
Museum, it was 6 meter thick and high at its time. When the northern front
of the new castle was being built the old wall was used as a fundation,
its this part of the wall you can see inside the Museum.

The Snaps Glas
In the Museum there is a small Snap Glas, and in the foot there is an
engraving to the memory of the great fire of 1997 when most of the old
castle burned to the ground.

The Stone Table
The Stone Table is also from the old castle and survived the great fire
because it was placed in a small part of the old castle that was not
affected by the fire.
